You should go and check out some of the "MacBreak" podcasts. They have a few good easy to follow video tutorials on QuickSilver
http://www.twit.tv/mb12 and http://www.twit.tv/node/4471
There are also lots of other sites with QuickSilver tutorials if you look. Go give it a googleing
Omg, Quicksilver just rulez!
One of the best & fastest laucher (&more) tools.
Really like it. Using it since 2 some Years now.
Anyone knows LauchBar???
What're thinking bout it?
nonsense
Yeah, quicksilver is probably the best program ever.
sometimes signatures go over the top
I prefer Spotlight/mdfind.
Having to invoke and rescan the index or wait ten minutes (or worse, have to go into the preferences and add a directory to the index manually because it isn't included) slows things down for me, and Spotlight can do everyday launching just as well as qs can.

on my G4 (flat panel) iMac, QS is to slow to actually use it. Especially with an external HD attached.
which is a shame, because I really, really like QS ![]()
when I eventually get the cash together for a new machine, QS will be the first thing that gets installed!

I dont know about you, but on my computer, quicksilver seems to use spotlight's index so it doesnt have to rescan every time...

I'm not using Cmd+Shift+A since I've tried QS ![]()
But, imho, Butler way more "precise" in finding applications and files

Quicksilver makes its own index which it rescans every 10 minutes. If you make a new file and search for it right away, it won't appear unless you rescan. Of course, you could use Quicksilver's Spotlight search, but that's dog slow.
Unless you mean that your Quicksilver uses your entire Spotlight index, in which case I want your computer.

Well... if i download an application and drag it to my apps folder, then search for it in quicksilver it is there... i don't have to rescan or anything, and it is set to manual re-scan...

Same, I've used it for a while, but all I use it for is to launch apps and locate things in the finder.
QS is just impressive, worked slow in my iBook G4, but when i upgraded my RAM was the first thing i installed.
Launch applications, do some quick Math calculations, control itunes, open my work's folders all without a single click of my mouse, just great.
In a world full of people, only some want to fly, isn't that crazy?
I love QS, but it does take a long time to get used to. Now it's close to second nature for to look for QS on a computer, but it took a while to get there. Spend some time with QS: install and learn a few of the plugins, and I think its value will start to become very apparent.

i havnt had time to dig too deeply into this application but its a stunner even though i only use a small part of it capability

How did you get it working that way?

I don't know... it just happened... I could send you my quicksilver application support, but then you would lose all your settings...

I'm still using it for just the basics (opening apps) and love it, but haven't had the time to take it to the next level.
God, though, I hate it when I try to invoke QS while at work on my Dell with XP!!!

You might consider looking at a program like Launchy. Not NEARLY as polished and robust as QS, but it works pretty well as a program launcher.
You can find it here: http://www.launchy.net/

Check out these two QS tutorials - they really helped me take QS to the next level.
Basic QS: http://vjarmy.com/archives/2004/03/quicksilver_a_b.php
Intermediate QS: http://vjarmy.com/archives/2005/02/quicksilver_fro.php
If you're forced to use XP, there are a few options besides Launchy that you can consider. I don't recall the other freeware options but one is a shareware option that isn't too bad called AppRocket <http://www.candylabs.com/approcket/>.
So far none of the Windows versions of QS has been all that great but it's better than nothing. I believe that for use as just an app launcher Vista is going to have something that is supposed to work well but I've not gotten my copy of Vista yet for my work pc.
...and in case no one has picked up on it yet...yes, QS rocks! ![]()
