For those of you who use last.fm, I just remembered that somebody setup a MacHeist group on there a while ago:

http://www.last.fm/group/MacHeist

I figure it's worth mentioning again since we have a flood of new members now.

If you're not familiar with last.fm, it's a pretty cool music service. You can find out more about it at http://www.last.fm

Here are some profiles of the MacHeist creators:

I've been using Last.FM only as a result of Coversutra.  Before MHII, I never even heard of Last.fm.

Glad to see that Johnred is an of Montreal fan.

Of Montreal is one of my faves. I saw them live last year at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago and they were amazing.

I would have freaking loved to go to PMF, but I'm half a world away in Korea.  But I wouldn't be too keen on seeing them live.  Last year the lead singer sang on stage, butt naked, ding-dong flapping about, while gay porn played on the TVs in the background.

Great music, sure, but not my kind of live show.

They didn't go that far in the show we were at but here's Austin Sarner's testimonial for it:

I didn't know you lived in Chicago at the time. It was my first time there and I really liked the city (I grew up in Boston and it reminds me of a bigger Boston). I'll pester you the next time I'm there.

Sounds good...although you know I do live in Chicago because I did the botched mission...but whatever.

BTW, is there a way to update what you're listening to without there being a separate app running all the time? I'd rather it be a plugin or something.

I use CoverSutra for my scrobbling.

I remember there being an iTunes plug-in at one point but I'm sure it's dead.  CoverSutra or over remote applications are your best bet.

I think I still have an account there... I'll have to check, because I'm not really fond of music suggestion services, so I don't use Last.fm that much.

The Master would not approve.

Yeah, but I'm used to CoverSutra and like how it works for me. I'm sure Synergy is great, but I don't yet see the point in changing.

I'm giving them both a try. On my two monitor setup I think they might work well together. I now have CoverSutra notifications/whats playing on one monitor and Synergy on the other.

I also like having the play/pause/skip controls handy in the menu bar next to CoverSutra's search. That's something i used to use ByteController for

Just joined (better late than never).  I've been using CoverStream for scrobbling, but I don't think it scrobbles what's played on my iPod . . . Any suggestions for a better scrobbler?  Should I just use the official Last.fm app?

I have the official app taking care of scrobbles from my iPod and iPhone. And let CoverSutra take care of iTunes

I'd heard in the past that the official client was a bloated, resource-hog.  What's your experience with it been?

I have it set to open up whenever I connect my iPod/iPhone and do its scrobbling. Other than that, I don't use it much. I tend to listen to my own music if I'm at my Mac so don't use the app much for its "radio" features. Whenever I have used it though, everything as run smooth and I've not noticed any slowdown.

My lady friend uses it a lot  to find new music. and she hasn't ever mentioned any problems, and that’s running on a old G4 eMac.

I know there has been an update to the software recently that should have addressed some of the "resource-hog" problems I'm told.
