The Lounge • Malcor threatens MacApper
Since I know that boboboe is involved with MacApper, I wonder if you've been told about this?
Dozens of Mac fanbois have written in or posted comments on this blog imploring me to stop these attacks. They argue that bringing down these websites does more harm than good. They have been emailing Google and MediaTemple in an attempt to bring me down. And many have, while agreeing with my cause, accused me of throwing stones in a glass house, and called me out for smugness.
Lucky for the majority of you who are cheering these attacks on, I don't care at all what these fanbois think. So yes, the attacks will continue.
So the next question, of course, is who I will be attacking next? Let's see if you guys can guess it. Here are a couple of hints:
1. The writers on this site have an unhealthy obsession with pretty Mac apps.
2. The site's name rhymes with "Mac Crapper".
Every time I stumble on this website, my blood pressure rises, my faith in the intelligence of humanity decreases significantly, and I start feeling insane urges to kill my pet cat.
So for the sake of my cat, this maggot's going down. And it is fatter, juicier, and will be oh so more satisfying when it is squished. And best of all, I'll be killing many birds with one stone, as their staff page is three pages long, and consists mostly of their individual Mac setups. Horrifying.
Thanks to everyone for your support.
From the looks of things this guy just seems to be a script kiddie exploiting holes in WordPress et al. ...

Yeah, I saw this last night. Backups are done twice a day, so this person really can't do anything that cannot be fixed. There is a thread on the forums about this "Malcor" fellow: http://macapper.com/forums/showthread.php?t=511
It is sad that this person feels that they need to do something like this. I mean first attacking Glenn Wolsey's personal blog, and now MacApper? This person claims to be proving that Mac users should not be as "smug" as we apparently are, but I really think this person is just proving that they are an idiot...
The guy is a joke and a jerk, seriously... Too much free time, nothing to do with it. He does have a sense of humor, though! (Mac Crapper lol). I'll admit I did find it slightly amusing when he hacked Glenn, but it must've sucked for him.
Back on my two feet
Why would you attack someone just because they have a different preference. You're not forced to use their websites, just don't read them. These attacks are totally unjustified and have the opposite affects: more people will hear of them. Clearly, this "hacker" is a fool.

He hacked for the reason of fanboism. So any site that is mostly about Apple or Mac is included according to him.
Well, no. Creating a site devoted to a subject, product, company or person doesn't make you a fanboy/-i. What does, though, is believing that the focus of your attention can do no wrong. So this twit isn't targeting all Mac-centric sites.
His site is down.

?
It got dugg, Google database error, etc. It's back up now.
Well, looks like he did it. He at least deserves marks for consistency.
I have to say, I'm a tad unimpressed by the response - the comments in the forum suggested that everything was under control and that they were fully prepared, yet Malcor still caught them off guard and embarrassed them.
Oh well. They did back up everything, which means that any damage he would have done is ultimately inconsequential.
According to the comments, he's probably going to "hack" various Delicious Generation sites like Phill Ryu's blog, MDA, and MacThemes; he'll probably go after MacHeist too. I don't know how The Directorate are going to handle a prank like that on MH or MT - hopefully they'll be prepared. (I don't think anyone's going to care about MDA since that place is pretty much dead anyway...

To me it all seems like a gimmick just for some of the sites to get attention. Until he starts hitting major sites like MacRumors, I don't believe this one bit.
I think it's kind of funny that Miles was like, "Bring it on", and I wake up this morning and MacApper is hacked. I wonder who his next victim will be.....Macheist?
I want to know how he is doing it. Is it just a WordPress vulnerability? If so, that should be able to be patched somehow. Also, how can he guarantee a 24 hour downtime? Can he set the site cache to not expire for 24 hours? Even so, you can force those things to update.

All this, for me, points to it being a set-up for promotion.

I agree completely. Perhaps the start of MacHeist 2?
It would also explain why Malcor's blog hasn't been taken down yet, as it's technically promoting illegal activity.

It'll never happen. We have waaay too many security measures in place here.

That would be hilarious.

@Rampancy - The Editor that maintains the website did put a few security measures in place, though he still got through. Miles (MacApper owner) is on his anniversary now, so this may not be fixed for a few more hours.
@Warbrain - I'm an Editor at MacApper and this definitely wasn't anything planned nor wanted by us.
@MrBobDobolina - Marvin (Editor/site designer/coder etc.) said he will check the server logs once Miles can get us back in to see if he can figure out what he is doing. Though "malcor" claims that the attacks will be "untraceable and unstoppable" but I expect thats just the 10-year old talking in him.
And in the comments of his latest post "malcor" said that:
http://mydreamapp.com/
http://www.discoapp.com/
http://www.phillryu.com/
http://macthemes2.net
...were all very nice suggestions for his next "take-down," though if those sites have the security in place that MH does, then I doubt that would be a problem.
And... ummm John? Mind sharing a few of those security measures with MacApper? Because just because of this "attack" we aren't all of a sudden going to radically change the way we do things at MacApper, which leads me to believe that we will probably be "attacked" again in the future.
Also, funny little thing in teh source of the current MacApper:

No offense, boboboe, but I'm not going to completely take your word right now as there have been plenty of times in which people lied about noninvolvement with something like this. Like I said, don't get offended, but I'm waiting it out to see what's actually happening.

Scott and I have talked with Glenn and we're trying to get in touch with Myles at MacApper.

does this guy have a life? What's the point of doing this? Well I guess I'll just see what happens.
Why'd you edit your post?
