The Lounge • The Mark Fiasco...FULLY EXPOSING MARK HOWSON...Gig is up...

He has conned me into thinking he was for real, he offered me money about a month back to do some "coding" for him, which I did, and he never paid. He has also not returned any emails, for me asking for some money for the service I provided, (about 4 weeks ago). So now I have given up, I just suggest, never buy anything from him, its a scam, and he also told me about how name networks was a big company with a lot of people working for them. I do admit to falling for these lies, but I would say, we all just got to move one.
@EDIT-EXTREEM: Yo dude, I don't get it?! You're talking in this forum about a 'scam' but you speak highly of 20macapps on your blog? http://edit.xtreem.iappblog.com/2007/12 … -the-year/ Or is it just me?
Yes, I was curious about that too. Given how much exposure and justified negativity Howsen and his efforts have gotten here I was surprised that EDIT-XTREEM was so positive about it.

He conned me into writing that, offered to "have me work with them", but never followed though, I think he blocked me on aim after he realized that I knew his gig was up

Well, if we manage to keep as much of the Mac community informed as possible about this [insert pejorative term here] maybe we'll keep a few people from falling into the Howson trap.
jennsbl: I know this is off topic and I have already mentioned in another thread that I liked your avatar...
Now I'm wondering what type of playlist does a flying Dragon have on it's iPod?
And...
Do all Dragons fly?
And...
If so then what is a fire-breathing mammal called that doesn't fly?
It's a slow Sunday morning and the mind tends to wander...

Okay, so for the first question - definitely *NOT* Puff the Magic Dragon...
Some Celtic stuff is definitely on there though. (-;

Thanks, and it was my mistake, but we all make mistakes, its just best if you can admit to them, so.. anyone else got a controversial Mark Howson Story? ![]()

Well not much new except that it seems he is doing that disappearing trick again on the 20macapps too:

Unbelievable. Looks like this is going to be set up to be even more of a colossal failure than anything else I've ever seen before. I made a comparison of this to MyDreamApp a while ago - but at least MDA didn't charge anyone money for the apps, and there has been comparatively more communication from the people in charge.

People who are upset with MDA are upset because they don't have the opportunity to give their money tot eh MDA team and app developers.
As far as I know, all the contestants from MDA received their PowerMacs, ipods, etc.
So, the only ones really being hurt by MDA's delay are the MDA team. in contrast to these latest Howsen/Name Network fiasco, where the developers and the consumers are being hurt.

Slightly off topic: What is happening with MDA? I was really excited about that.
Okay, he's gone again.
From the forums link at 20macapps:
Announcement
Forum closed while we integrate our new eCommerce system
Who wants to take bets on when this "integration" takes place?
About the same time he actually ships his 20 apps. (Which by the way, are going to sooooo totally get >4/5 on MacUpdate simply because they were born from the intellectual loins of his genius.)
Which is to say, never.

Me first.. - never and I bet - my dog's life on it...
its not mean on the dog, its a certainty it will never happen!
Oh and I do believe this is one of his domains as well...
tmpstore.com (it did have a duplicate of theMacPak but better designed and it was entitled themacpak Store)
just thought i would give a heads up...
Is there any way to get the UK authorities involved in this? I don't want to see Mark get away with it all again…

Well, someone in the UK who was burnt by all this would have to file a complaint with the Small Claims Bureau (or whatever it's called now).
I would have filed, but since I emailed the developers involved in the May Macpak, I got all my serials directly, so technically I'm okay.

You can view the wares Howson peddles on ebay [and don't forget to read the feedback comments] here:... [ebay feedback link to user namenetwork]
I agree Mark Howson is acting like a first class jerk, but I don't understand the comment above. He's never SOLD anything on eBay and the feedback for his purchases isn't particularly bad. I wish it was so more people would avoid him!
Offering stuff for the future, i.e. "pay me now and I'll deliver in nn months", is pretty clever since by the time comes around it's too late to file disputes. Definitely not a cool character!

I haven't been stung by him (didn't get involved), but his company is registered in the UK with Companies House, so should abide by the trade descriptions act (or whatever it is). If he fails to deliver on his advertisements, you should be able to report him to the Trading Standards office.
Or, ring his parents. The landline phone number for that house is really, really easy to find, and interestingly is not registered to a M Howson but to an A Howson.
Life is like a box of chocolates; often good, sometimes disappointing, occasionally orange flavoured.
Wow, I wish I had known how much of a scam artist Mark was BEFORE I bought into his 20MacApps scam. The website has been taken down and this is what it says:

I just called my credit card copy to dispute the $40 charge and they are crediting it back to me. I can't believe I fell for his scam but then again, I didn't know Mark's history.
